Rockies Rescue Raises Funds for Air Ambulance

Aug 29, 2016

EDMONTON, CANADA - “The CEO Rescue in the Rockies is an inspiring event that will help ensure STARS stays financially strong and gets attention for the valuable work that they do,” said Riopel.

On September 23, 2016, Riopel will be flown by STARS helicopter and dropped off in the wilds of the Canadian Rockies. Armed with only her cell phone and a contact list, Riopel will raise donations for STARS so she can be rescued and returned to civilization.

“Rescue participants have raised nearly $4 million for STARS over the past four events,” said Gurpreet Lail, Executive Director, STARS Alberta. “The community support and donations we receive through major fundraisers like the Rescue in the Rockies help ensure that STARS can be there for the next patient who needs us.”

STARS is a charitable, non-profit helicopter air ambulance organization that provides highly specialized emergency medical care and transportation for critically ill and injured patients in Western Canada.

A long-time advocate for the organization, Riopel leapt at the opportunity to help raise funds and bring attention to STARS.

“Timely access to medical services is critically important, especially in Alberta with its large rural population and remote locations,” said Riopel. “I have supported STARS since the beginning as I believe strongly in the importance of connecting people to health care services, where and when they need them.”
