Aug 12, 2016

EDMONTON, CANADA - The Edmonton Chamber of Commerce applauds the announcement of a provincial government program that will help small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) access international trade and export opportunities.

The Alberta Export Expansion Package, announced August 8th by the Honourable Deron Bilous, Minister of Economic Development and Trade, will provide $9 million in funding for three new export-focused programs.

“Expanding trade and access to markets is a key priority of the Edmonton Chamber of Commerce.” said Janet Riopel, President & CEO of the Edmonton Chamber of Commerce. “It is encouraging to see that our Government recognizes that businesses need advice and assistance on how to expand their opportunities and grow their market reach beyond our provincial and national boundaries.”

The Edmonton Chamber is particularly interested in the Export Support Fund, which will provide up to $20,000 in funding annually to approximately 240 SMEs for export activities that promote the sales of products and services in new international export markets.

“The Export Expansion Package funding is a positive step towards helping Alberta’s people, products and services to access new markets that have great need for what we have to offer.” said Riopel.
