May 15, 2024

International trade allows already developed countries to utilize their resources more efficiently and effectively whereas allows the developing nations to explore international markets and further enhance their economies. International trade is essential because countries rely on other countries that can’t be readily available domestically due to lack of resources or other similar reasons. The surplus goods of a country are then exported to other countries which have a demand for that specific product or services.

Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA), Bhubaneswar is now ready with all necessary infrastructure and regulatory permissions to handle direct export/import of air cargo to/from international destinations since its flag off in January 2024. The Air Cargo Operations are now open to three major destinations, Dubai, Singapore and Bangkok and more options are under the pipeline where more flight options shall be available for the exporters. WTC Bhubaneswar as an Export Facilitation Cell and MSME Department, Govt. of Odisha has been consistently working towards streamlining the air cargo facility at BPIA Bhubaneswar which shall further act as a boost to the export scenario of the state.

Air Cargo Facility at BPIA Bhubaneswar experienced its first ever perishable goods cargo shipment on 15th May 2024 from BBI (Bhubaneswar) to DXB (Dubai). The consignment consisted of fresh produce from Odisha like Amrapalli Mangoes, Biiter Gourd and Ladies Finger (also commonly called as Okra). This consignment provided a way forward for other potential exporters to explore international market and venture into exports.

BPIA is currently witnessing regular increase in the cargo movement with the collective efforts of the state government of Odisha and other stakeholders. Regular meetings AND interventions are carried out to maintain a systematic operation of the entire export procedure as well as develop the cargo terminal with better infrastructure and amenities.
